Nichola George
Daytime Postpartum Doula, Night-time Postpartum Doula
My postpartum doula journey started over 15 years ago when one of my very close friends needed some extra support with her newborn. I helped them both through the 4th trimester, gently introducing her baby boy to life outside the womb while simultaneously providing the necessary assistance for my friend to rest and recover.
In the last 6 years I became a mother to 4 children and I feel so honoured and blessed to be called “mama”, “mom” and lately, “bruh” by my kids who range from ages 1-6.
I’ve had several different experiences with pregnancy/birth. I’ve miscarried twice, given birth while grieving the sudden loss of my dad, given birth during the pandemic and then the icing on the cake was birthing my identical twins.
I truly believe that it takes a village to raise children and I secretly wished for a doula after all of my pregnancies. It’s with that, that I then made the formal decision to become a doula with Doula School (Doula Canada) to give to postpartum parents what they need, to not only survive but to thrive.
In my own experience, I particularly struggled with overnights for the first few months after each pregnancy. I wanted to just snuggle and cuddle and bond with my babies, but always had something or someone else to take care of. I deeply desired to be held and nurtured while I held my babies and that’s one of the main reasons why I am passionate about this work. I have lots of lived experience, love and life hacks to offer and I’m so ready to share that with anyone who needs it.
